ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has rejected Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) plea challenging the jurisdiction of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in a foreign funding case against the party.
PTI’s dissident member Akbar S Babar had filed a petition in the ECP seeking PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s disqualification for allegedly obtaining funds from illegal sources and discrepancies in the party’s accounts.
PTI has maintained that it cannot reveal its bank account details to the ECP, as technically the commision has become a party in the case. It had pleaded the court bar the ECP from investigating the case.
However, IHC Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiyani announced his short order that rejected the PTI’s plea.
A five-member bench of the ECP, headed by Chief Election Commissioner retired Justice Sardar Raza Mohammad Khan will conduct hearing in the case on February 7.
